Just as social interaction has evolved over the years so has marketing. The pick-up lines that worked for hipsters would fall flat today just as marketing tactics of the the 80’s wouldn’t earn customers in the Facebook age. It seems a lot less successful pick-up artists are spouting Austin Powers pick-up lines while marketers seem quite content in going for the quick hit in their attempts at customer acquisition.

Over the past three years, the Cisco Visual Networking Index has become a highly regarded measure of the Internet’s growth. National governments, academic researchers, telecommunications companies, technology experts and the business press have all taken a keen interest in what the company’s annual study has to say about our digital future.
Interesting to note how mobile data and video and impacting internet growth.
“Device influence” is one of their toughest challenges these days. More and more types of communications devices, from smart phones to video chat tools, are hitting the market. Anticipating the effect of such never-before-seen technology is difficult. Growth of iPad 3G, 4G phones, or new unanticipated devices such as a mobile phone service called digital photo frames has virtually overnight created a surge of new subscribers and traffic.
2009 Index of the Massachusetts Innovation Economy

TheĀ Index of the Massachusetts Innovation Economy, published annually since 1997, is a benchmark for measuring the performance of the Massachusetts knowledge economy.
The Index assesses the state’s economic progress and its changing competitive position. Through 25 indicators, the Index gives a comprehensive view of several dimensions of the innovation ecosystem. Using a rich set of US-based data sources, the Index benchmarks Massachusetts against nine Leading Technology States (LTS) to reveal relative strengths and weaknesses. The nine LTS chosen for comparison in the 2009 Index are California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. (more…)
Nielson study – social media is the norm

A new Nielsen study, commissioned by BlogHer and iVillage found that 73 percent of the online population engage in social media activity at least once per week. Engagement was defined as reading a blog, visiting a social network or reading (and/or commenting on) a message board. The research pegs the total U.S. social media audience at 127 million.
